When
comparing the NES with the Sega Master, the NES had an 8-BIT
6502 processor running at 1.79Mhz (the Sega Master had a faster
Z80 at 3.6Mhz), a resolution of 160x192 (Sega Master: 256x220),
sound processors, 16 colors on screen out of 52 (Sega Master:
64 out of 512), a maximum number of sprites of 64 (same as the
Sega Master; a sprite is a moving object on screen) and a maximum
sprite size of 8x16 (Sega Master: 32 x 32). In Japan it was
known as the Famicom, and it had a completely different case.
Some time later, Nintendo redesigned the NES, reduced its case
size and internal electronics to make it less expensive.
